As public relations professionals, we all interact with the media. Some say it is not professional for media to accept payment for news sources in return for coverage. However, more than one in three practitioners and one in five journalists say it is generally considered okay in their countries for national media to accept such payments. These findings come from a global Internet survey of 574 public relations practitioners and journalists, conducted by Dr. Katerina Tsetsura, to explore global media relations practices. She will discuss these practices and share with us her findings. Tsetsura is an assistant profesor in the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at theUniversity of Oklahoma. Her interests include international and global strategic communication, global media and public relations ethics, and public affairs and issues management in countries with transitional economies. She is internationally published and has presented papers at numerous research and professional communications conferences around the world including Germany, Mexico, Poland, andRussia. She is one of the two leading researchers of the landmark Global Media Transparency project supported by the Institute for Public Relations (USA), the International Public Relations Association, the International Federation of Journalists and the International Press Institute. Tsetsura continues to collect the data on media practices in theUSA and around the world. This promises to be a dynamic presentation that you will want to attend! This months meeting sponsored by the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce.

Join PRSA Oklahoma City Chapter for Shadow Day and Ethics Month. Most people consider themselves ethical. Then how is it that we so often see ethical lapses reported in the news? Why is it that we make such poor decisions? The reality is that most of us are not equipped with good ethical decision making skills. Often when we reach those critical junctures in life, we find ourselves confused and immersed in compromise. Is there a better way? Dr. Tony Griffin will share with us the basics of clear ethical thinking in his engaging talk entitled ''Save Us from Ourselves: The Basics of Clear Ethical Thinking.'' Tony Griffin, Ph.D., is the Mike and Sheila Ingram Executive Director at the Zig Ziglar Center for Ethical Leadership at Southern Nazarene Univeristy. His broad experience in education provides a solid foundation for this position. Dr. Griffin has several degrees, is a Certified Public Accountant and has practiced law. His work experience includes corporate service for various businesses. Later he transitioned into ministry and has served as pastor of numerous churches. Professionals are needed to host students. Please sign-up to participate in Shadow Day when you RSVP. Showing the next generation of public relations practitioners the solid ethical standards we uphold ourselves to is a great Shadow Day experience for this year's participants and a presentation you won't want to miss! *Remember, to comfortably accommodate the number of students, members and guests attending, this meeting is being held at the Will Rogers Theatre. | ||||||||||||
