PRSA-OKC May 2006 Speaker: Larry Hatteberg
Larry Hatteberg

So began the conversation that forever will be etched in the memory of Larry Hatteberg. That telephone call, placed by Rader from the Sedgwick County Detention Center to Hatteberg's home, was the first of several, often bizarre communications between the confessed BTK killer and Wichita's KAKE-TV's Emmy-winning broadcaster.

In the days that followed, Hatteberg would straddle the dual roles of news anchor and news maker as his rare, personal contact with BTK earned him an expanded local audience, plus interviews and guest spots on national news programs. As television networks jockeyed for coverage, Hatteberg was their closest link to the history and the mind of the criminal.

Join PRSA-OKC Wednesday, May 17, at Nonna's in Bricktown, where Larry will share rarely-released letters between himself and Dennis Rader and provide insights into BTK's ongoing attempts to control and manipulate coverage of his crimes. Hatteberg also will offer personal insights on working with network news operations.
