Wednesday, July 15, 2009 Join PRSA-OKC for its monthly meeting on July 15 at 11:30 a.m. at Nonna's. Some organizations bombard the media with breathless news releases about anything and everything. Others simply change the event date on a worn-out media advisory year after year. More wonder why the coverage they're getting isn't making a difference.
If it's been a while since you took a fresh look at your media relations efforts, you won't want to miss Kristie Aylett, APR, chair-elect of PRSA's six-state Southwest District, who will discuss how to develop a media strategy that produces results. For nearly 20 years, Aylett has been tailoring media relations programs to help organizations accomplish their goals, previously for her employers and now for clients at her consulting firm, The KARD Group PR/Marketing. From hyper-local ongoing media outreach to pitching story ideas to reporters near and far, she's learned well-written news releases will take you only so far, but a comprehensive media strategy based on business objectives can work wonders for your organization and your career. Before the meeting! Are you a new member? Or, maybe you just want to reconnect to PRSA Oklahoma City? Join us Wednesday, July 15 at 10:30 a.m. at Nonna's to learn more about PRSA and the Oklahoma City Chapter. Membership chairs Marla Freeman, APR and Alesha Leemaster, APR will give an overview of the organization, benefits you receive as a member and ways to get involved locally. We hope you'll join us for the new member orientation and stay for lunch. Questions? Contact Marla or Alesha at membership@prsaokc.com.

These days, TV is as much a part of our lives as running water or electricity. Few of us can imagine life without TV service, but Congress has set the official date of the nationwide DTV transition as February 17, 2009. After 11:59 p.m. on that date, all full-power local television stations will broadcast only in digital format. At least 20 million households and 70 million television sets are at risk of losing their signals if owners of these sets do not take the necessary steps to upgrade. Find out from Rob Volmer, president of Crosby-Volmer International Communications, how their public relations professionals faced the challenges of executing a nationwide consumer education campaign to inform and ease viewers into this transition.
